Innova BM Presents New Study on Haberlea rhodopensis: Exploring Cytotoxic and Antiproliferative Effects
At Innova BM, our commitment to harnessing the power of plant science for innovative active cosmetic ingredients has reached an exciting new keystone. We are thrilled to announce the publication of our latest study, titled “In Vitro Investigation of the Cytotoxic and Antiproliferative Effects of Haberlea rhodopensis Total Extract: A Comparative Study.” This groundbreaking research marks a significant advancement in our ongoing exploration of the remarkable properties of the extraordinary plant Haberlea rhodopensis.
Unveiling the Potential of Haberlea rhodopensis.
Haberlea rhodopensis, often referred to as the “Resurrection Plant,” is known for its remarkable ability to survive extreme dehydration and environmental stress. It possesses biochemical mechanisms of resurrection, which allow it to withstand prolonged stress conditions. It is rare and protected, as its natural habitat consists of only a handful of small areas in the Rhodope and the Balkan Mountains. Picking it is strictly forbidden. Haberlea is ancient – It has survived a major ice age. Our research team has long been intrigued by this plant’s resilience and its applications in cosmetics. This latest study unveils more of its amazing properties and prove its potential as a valuable active ingredient for the cosmetic industry, especially in skin care.
About the study and key findings.
In the study, we evaluated the cytotoxic and antiproliferative activities of two commercially used herb extracts of Haberlea rhodopensis on various cancer cells, using a normal cell line as a reference. While both extracts showed decreased inhibitory activity compared to the reference compound doxorubicin, the myconoside-enriched Extract 2 (E2) demonstrated significantly higher cytotoxicity and antiproliferative effects than Extract 1 (E1), particularly at the highest concentration of 100 μg/mL.
This study is a reflection to Innova BM’s dedication to advancing plant science and its applications in cosmetics.
